The Obesity Collective was invited to present to the Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport’s Inquiry into Diabetes in Australia on Nov 17th at Parliament House. The three major points in our opening statement included:

  • The oversimplification of obesity is harmful and a major barrier to needed change.
  • There is need for action 3 areas: prevention, treatment and to reduce harmful weight stigma.
  • We will get better and more efficient outcomes if we collaborate more nationally on action.

The committee asked a range of questions including topics such as stigma in healthcare, the National Obesity Strategy, marketing to children, language, a health levy on sugary drink manufacturers and labelling.
