World Obesity Day 2025

Mar 5, 2025 | Events

This year, we hosted our sixth World Obesity Day seminar, featuring expert speakers across lived experience, weight stigma, obesity prevention, and obesity management and treatment.

The focus this year was on the urgent need to address inequities in obesity prevalence, access, and provision of prevention and treatment services. Speakers explored the drivers of these inequities, their consequences, and the actions needed to ensure all communities benefit from effective solutions.

The global theme for 2025 highlighted the systems that shape our health. For too long, responses to obesity have focused on individuals while healthcare, government policies, food environments, media, and workplaces continue to fall short. Shifting the focus to systemic change is essential. Obesity is a complex, chronic condition that increases the risk of other serious diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Addressing these challenges requires collaboration between governments, health professionals, advocates, and the public to transform systems, reduce inequities, and create a healthier future for all.
