We are deeply saddened by the recent passing of Professor William “Bill” Bellew, a valued advisor to our collective and a respected leader in chronic disease prevention.
Bill was a Professorial Fellow with the Prevention Research Collaboration at the Charles Perkins Centre and dedicated his career to improving population health. His work spanned prevention of NCDs, systems approaches, physical activity, social marketing, and evidence translation. He played key roles in major initiatives including the NSW Childhood Obesity Summit, the evidence review informing the NSW Premier’s Priority on childhood obesity, and national and global efforts to improve prevention policy.
Bill believed deeply in creating healthier environments for all—advocating for stronger regulation of unhealthy advertising, improved food labelling, and long-term investment in obesity prevention.
We are grateful for his generous guidance, expertise, and support of our work. His legacy in prevention and his impact on our community will not be forgotten.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bill’s family, friends, and colleagues.
